Question:
hey. i was planning on getting a hermit crab before i leave my vacation tomorrow. i was at a small store today on the boardwalk and saw 2 big cages full of hermit crabs crawling around and thought they were a little cute. i know some people say they're ugly. but i think they're a little bit cute. i wanna get one and i know i probably will. but how will it be when i take it home. can't wait. are they good pets? do they pinch and does it hurt. are they a lot of work? i never had one before. also i am getting a small one.
Answers:I love my hermit crabs so much!!!they are kinda cute n fun...but also kinda shy sometimes.but they're easy to take care.they do pinch sometimes but it is not gonna hurt...dont worry,i always get pinched by them.it is better if you keep two hermit crabs not one.because they use to live with a lot of friends.
Personally, I am extremely against hermit crabs as pets. When I was younger, I had two. They lasted two years each, and they were not from the mall. Hermit crabs are taken off the beach in Colombia by people of extreme poverty and are sold at almost nothing. Usually, they are painted and sent to the mall. Children see them as toys NOT pets, when they are living creatures. Please do not get a hermit crab. They have very specific needs and if they are not fulfilled they will die. They are not pets, they are wild animals.
i dont really like them there kinda boring and die quickly. get one if you want because if you like them then get them but i had one and it picnhed alot and it was really boring but do what you want. i suggest you buy a rabbit if you cant get a dog or cat cause there pretty cool and fun and also (cute)
my brother had one and they will probably pinch if you let them. lol but they are kinda boring to me. there like a fish that just sits there. but they are pretty easy to take care of oh btw they change shells so make sure you have alot of shells in there so they can find the right one. my bro's died because he didn't have a shell they could change into. GOOD LUCK!fairly heartyHermit crabs actually require a decent amount of care in order to be kept properly... there are people that just put them in a little bowl with sand and a sponge... that's the equivalent to putting you in a cell with bread and water. If you are interested in a crab, there are a few things you need to know! Hermit crabs require a certain Temperature, and humidity... around 76-80% of both. They need the humidity to be able to breath properly. An aquarium with lid... and temp/humidity thermometer can help you keep this under control. They also need fresh veggies, as well as standard food, including calcium. Each crab needs a minimum of 5 shells for shell changing.. remember that painted shells can chip, and the paint can be lethal to crabs. In order for shell comfort, they also need salt water.. they add this to there home shell keeping their body moist. This is in addition to the drinking water :) A depth of 5 inches of slightly moist soil is minimum for there molting. Hermit crabs can be very cool.. you just have to keep up with your research! check out www.hermitcrabassociation.com for awesome tips, and info.. Hope this helps!Keeping hermit crabs alive as pets for a long time isn't extremely difficult, but it does require maintenance. So if you do decide to get some, make sure you provide them with good care. Have fun with your purchase!
