Why is my PT Cruiser Transmission bucking?

Question:

I bought a PT Cruiser new in 2002, has over 120,000 miles. ( a nice woody) Last week, coming home from vacation, got in traffic around Baltimore, and it stalled for the first time; started it and it bucked. Got off highway and resumed home another hour. Got near home at a red light and it bucked again. It hasn't bucked since last week, but it makes a clanging noise when it is in drive sitting in my garage. Sounds like a tin can sitting on top of another tin. Is it a sensor, a belt, or something more serious? Hope not I suppose I better take it to my dealer and get charged an arm and a leg. Thanks

Answers:

the neon is a throw away car....

you sure its not bad fuel id try a bottle or two of fuel treatment or maybe a tune up with new plugs... but then you say clanging sure its not a bad pulley
