How to get rid of bedbugs in your clothes?

My husband and I went on a vacation and slept over at one of his relatives' house. During my stay, I had lots of bedbug bites all over my body and I think we might have brought some of them home through our clothes. Can soaking our clothes in laundry detergent overnight kill them? I heard it's very hard to get rid of them, especially their eggs. :( I'm frustrated because I'm itching all over from their bites.
