Question:
And lots more.....
Answers:John Hughes flicks definitely
I think Michael Jackson had more of a crossover audience appeal than John Hughes did. Jackson's music crossed age, race and language barriers. Hughes movies are basically made by and for middle class white kids and families. I'm not saying that black people in general don't like Hughes movies. But look at that list of films and you won't see a single, major black character. This is bound to alienate some portion of the black audience, because he brings nothing from the black experience into his films. I'm white, so obviously his films resonate with me more. On the other hand, music is more of a universal language. Michael had a huge following from most ethnic groups. The guy even toured with a blonde, white, female lead guitar player, in the eighties, when guitar was all about big male egos with even bigger hair. He knew how to cross boundries. You might think the TV show Friends was a great show, but don't be surprised when you meet a black person who has never seen a single episode of a hit show that was on TV forever. Black people weren't the target audience, because the Friends characters lived in a make believe New York City that was somehow magically devoid of all black people. Hughes movies are the same and I loved them, but I'm also the target audience.
To be honest.. John Hughes. His movies are my all time favorites. I can't say I am/was the biggest Michael Jackson fan, though I definitely have a lot of respect for him.
