Question:
I moved back home last week and my mother is driving me crazy with her procrastinating. She spend the last few years while I lived abroad complaining about having no help with her messy house (rooms literally filled with junk), and now that I am home I want to start work and clear out the mess, she is full of excuses... 'I'm not doing anything until the taxes are done'. This makes me so mad, as clearing one of the rooms would take about 4 hours but she always has time for golf, vacations, and nights out. I don't understand this constant litany of excuses and it drives me crazy. She will continue to complain about her tipheap of a house, but when help is offered, all is given in return is procrastination. Is this normal in people of a certain age (she is 67 next week). What can be done?
Answers:Nothing can be done, just go about your business, find your spot - keep it tidy, and ignore the rest. Continue to prod your mother, but don't hold out any hope that she'll turn a new leaf.
If you don't like it, move out.
